Art Anthology and Altered Pages its a SWAP!

Art_Anthology_Altered_Pages_Kitsnbits_Tag3

Welcome to the Art Anthology/Altered Pages Blog Swap.  The last few weeks of October the Design Teams from both Art Anthology and Altered Pages have created some very inspirational projects.  Check out the blogs!

I made a couple of tags to share, my vision for creating this first tag came from the Altered Pages butterfly collage page called "Jar Fairies"  I usually do not work with this much color but I could not help myself.

I also used our new Art Anthology Stencil "Bubbles" with white gesso and of course their Dimensional Crystals and sorbet, and colorations.

Below is my second tag that I made from the leftovers and some jewels stash I had.

Celebrate National Breast Cancer Month

Hi,
I am over at the Art Anthology Blog today.  I created an 8x8 canvas for our challenge this month with the AA design team.

My canvas is inspired by my friends that have had breast cancer and how very strong they were throughout their healing process.  They are confident, strong women and I am very thankful I have such awesome ladies in my life.

This is for you Michelle and Christine.  Love you girls.

Thank you for stopping by today.  Please go on over to the Art Anthology Blog and see more photos of my canvas and also what the other DT ladies have created for you this month.

BOY Play and Leaky Shed Studio

Hi, I have my page featured over at Leaky Shed Studio.  Please go on over and take a look.

So I ran across this picture of my nephew Kit when he was around 4.  My sisters and I were at our neighborhood park in S. California.  We took some photos of our children and I thought this picture of my nephew is so dang cute that I had to use it for a layout.

The first thing I did besides picking out my photo was to figure out the colors I wanted to use.  I chose brown to give the layout a "boy" look, I chose yellow to bring out the "duck" in my photo and I added gold to soften the dark brown.  Next I chose my Leaky Shed Studio chipboard pieces.

BOY spelled out using the Leaky Shed Studio Alphabet:

I painted the letters black with acrylic paint.  After it was dry I layered on Tim Holtz Rock Candy to distress and crackle the words.  I used extra Rock Candy and put a heat gun to it.  The Rock Candy is more subtle than the Ranger "crackle" paint which is white.  I then added a Leaky Shed Studio gear to the "O" for a little more pizzazz.

For the Putman Bird I reversed the direction and painted a base coat of white acrylic.  Then I used a semi thick brush to "glob" the tip of my brush against the chipboard.  This method gave me a thicker layer and I think it made it look "softer" than a regular brush stroke.  So I painted the bird belly yellow to match the "duck" that my nephew was riding.  I then added a layer of gold that bled into the yellow and gave more of transition to the black top "feathers" of the bird.  After which, I added lots of Rock Candy and heat to crackle the paint

For the gears I first painted them metallic gold.  Then I slowly added Stampendous mica gold pieces.

I hope you enjoyed my layout today, thank you for stopping by, happy scrapping

Mandala Art Jar with Art Anthology

Hi, today my mandala is being featured over at Art Anthology!  Please go on over to their blog for more views and start to finish photos of my process.  Also while you are there check out the other Mandala's that were created by my design team peeps.

Every month at Art Anthology we have a theme challenge.  So of course this month was mandalas.  Well I've never drawn a mandala and also, I wanted to do some thing "out of the box" or jar in this case.

I specifically made a jar because I am currently redecorating my scrap room.  I now hold all my paint brushes in a coffee mug.  I wanted to create something pretty to put my paint brushes in so this seemed the perfect opportunity.

Hope you enjoyed my interpretation of the Mandala Challenge at Art Anthology and thank you for stopping by.

Sunshine Journal Pages with Art Anthology

Hello, I would like to share some happy journal pages I created for the Art Anthology blog today.

Please go on over to the Art Anthology Blog for more photos of my techniques and "how to".

I have to say I love the Colorations spray from Art Anthology; the colors really are so vibrant.  I also love that the gesso spreads smooth and has great coverage.

Here is a example of what I am talking about.

First I put down my stencil and spread the Art Anthology gesso over it because I wanted to obscure the pattern behind the heart stencil.

Next I added the "Timeless" Colorations spray - be sure to mask your page before adding spray.

I loved the result.

Happy Scrapping ...

Back to School Journal Pages with Art Anthology

Art_Anthology_Kitsnbitscraps_Journal_Art_Pages

I love to read! I read at least one book per week so in honor of Back to School I created these two journal pages using Art Anthology.  For more photos of my journal I am being featured over at Art Anthology Blog so go check it out.

I used school themed paper and Art Anthology velvets to make my background and just started layering from there.  I added a hand cut banner out of paper and canvas because it reminds of school.

I also used stencils, rub-ons and coloration sprays.

Thank you for stopping by ... I hope I have inspired you to try some Art Anthology paints.

Taking Notes with Leaky Shed Studio

Hello, its Back to School!  So much to do, so many lists!  I am definitely a note taker.  Yes I know I have an iphone but I still make "To Do" lists.

So I made a back to school themed clipboard using Leaky Shed Studio.

Please head on over to Leaky Shed Studio Blog to see more photos of my project.  This was an easy, and quick project and it makes note taking a lot more fun. Also this would make a great gift for your child's teacher :)

Creative Blog Hop

I was invited to participate in the "Creative Blog Hop" by my friend and co-designer on Leaky Shed Studio, Tracey Sabella.

Here is a little bit about Tracey:

Tracey has been married for 31 years, and she has four adult children. She loves using different techniques while scrapbooking and has a shabby chic style.

Currently Tracey is on four design teams: Leaky Shed Studio, Helmar, Once Upon a Sketch and also Donna Salazar.

We will continue this progressive blog hop while meeting and greeting new bloggers, sharing our creative inspiration, and learning more about ourselves and the craft we love!  Tracey Sabella  mentioned me on her blog Gracescraps. So please go and check out her blog too.

I thought it was a fabulous idea to start a creative blog hop and introduce you to some new crafty friends and their blogs.  I would love for you all to follow our tour of creative blogs and hopefully get lots of inspiration and learn some new techniques.

Next in line for the Creative Tour Blog Hop is my friend:

DeeDee Roe  -  BlogBrown Paper Packaging

DeeDee is my "online" friend, I have known her for years.  We first met when we were on a design team together.  I think DeeDee is hilarious she tells the funniest stories about her two cute babies.  I also love DeeDee's talent.  She likes to make crowns, banners, signs and albums.

Now a little about me ...

1. What I am currently working on:

I "work" on something almost every day.  Right now I have several things on my plate.  First I need to do projects that are due for both:  Leaky Shed Studio and for Art Anthology.  I design for both companies, so there are 4 projects due this month.  Then I also promised this nice lady that emailed me about making her a pop up card (she liked the one she saw that I designed for Leaky Shed Studio).  I also have to do two custom orders with sesame street characters that I have to design and paper piece.

In essence I am ALWAYS working on something.  :)

2. Describe your style:  I have been asked this question before, and for me it is difficult to describe.  I do a lot of different things depending on my mood or the ideas or inspiration I receive.  If you have to pin me down I would say whimsical shabby.  I say that because I do like color, but sometimes I like to start with a color then wash it down with either white or black.

3. Why do I create:  My mother started teaching my twin sisters and I since we were all little girls.  Mom taught us how to knit, sew, embroidery, and cross-stitch.  I remember we all would sit together and cross stitch while talking to mom.  So I have never had idle hands, and crafting just makes me happy.  It is my own private therapy because while I am working on a project, that is all I think about.

4. How does my creative process work: Before I actually start a new project I have already created it in my head.  I get my initial idea from pattern paper or fabric and even a color; then I think it over in my mind for a week or so, just kind of visualizing what I will make. After I know what I want to do I start gathering my supplies, whether it is certain paints and canvas, or paper.  I add to my supplies or take away until I have what I need.  That is why my friends think I scrap or paint so fast because by the time I actually start my project I already know where I'm going with it.

Thank you for stopping by and be sure to check out my friend DeeDee Roe at Brown Paper Packaging  on August 25th.

Happy Scrapping ...
